Thank you and good bye Dr. Sugata Bag

The short-term visiting Chair at the Centre for Contemporary Indian Studies, Dr. Sugata Bag successfully completed his tenure on 13th January 2020 at CCIS.  As the Visiting Chair of CCIS Dr. Bag closely worked with the Department of International Relations and Department of Economics at the University of Colombo. He conducted a seminar on Indian Caste System for students in the Department of International Relations. He also delivered guest lectures and public lectures at various institutes in Colombo such as Centre for Poverty Analysis (CEPA), Lakshman Kadirgrama Institute (LKI), as well as he was invited to deliver a key note speech at the University of Jaffna on Human Capital and Women. Moreover, he was invited to deliver guest lectures at the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) for the students of Postgraduate/Diploma and/Higher Diploma in International Relations.

During his stay he also compiled the CCIS monograph titled on “Slums and Slum dwellers in three metro cities of India: a comparative study”. Moreover, he is working on another monograph titled “India’s growth perspectives: prospects and challenges”

His association with CCIS helped developing knowledge in Sri Lanka on contemporary Indian studies and strengthening Indo-Sri Lanka relationship through an institutionalized network between the two countries.
