The session was delivered by Ms. Sharmila Chandran, Advocate at the Supreme Court of India
and alumna of the National Law College, Delhi, who shared insightful perspectives on the role of
economic law in shaping governance, markets, and sustainable development. The event was graced

competition law, GST, and insolvency frameworks, while drawing important comparisons with
Sri Lanka’s economic and legal landscape. Through practical examples and comparative analysis,
the session encouraged participants to critically examine the role of law in shaping economic
stability, market confidence, and development, while enabling students to deepen their
understanding of how legal frameworks influence economic policy, governance, and sustainable
growth.
The participants, added great value to the session, fostering an engaging academic discussion
during the Q&A segment. This interaction provided students with the opportunity to reflect on
the relationship between law and economic policy, enhancing their academic understanding of
regional governance and development challenges.
As part of its continuing academic mission, CCIS hopes to further strengthen intellectual exchange
and academic collaboration between India and Sri Lanka by creating platforms for dialogue,
comparative learning, and deeper engagement with contemporary regional issues.
