In commemoration of the 156th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Center for Contemporary Indian Studies (CCIS) of the University of Colombo, in collaboration with the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, organized a Tree Planting Ceremony at the College House premises on October 2, 2025.
The event was graced by His Excellency Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka; Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo; Professor A. A. Azeez , Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies; Ms. Roshni Thomson, First Secretary P.I.C of the Indian High Commission; Mrs. K. C .S Perera, Registrar of the University of Colombo; and Professor R. Senthiraja, Director of the Center for Contemporary Indian Studies, along with several other distinguished guests.
The cordial meeting held following the event paved the way for strengthening mutual understanding and cooperation between the University of Colombo and the High Commission of India, unveiling a series of future academic and cultural collaborations.
